Upper Nicola’s education department is funded by Aboriginal Affairs & Northern Development Canada (AANDC).

Funding for education for members registered in elementary and secondary schools is based on the previous year’s registration, meaning limited amounts of financial assistance are available for all students.

Head Start Program

The Aboriginal Head Start program nurtures the healthy growth and development of First Nation children in our community. Our program is designed and delivered by our community and supports the physical development, emotional, social, cultural and spiritual well being of children from birth to age 6.

N’kwala School

N’kwala School was built in 1990 with the goal of parents, community members and staff working together to achieve the highest quality of educations for student to become lifelong learners. There are currently over 30 students enrolled at the N’kwala School from nursery to Grade 11.

Post-secondary Assistance Program

The Post-Secondary Assistance Program provides financial support to allow eligible Upper Nicola Band members pursue higher education. Our education funding policy was updated in June 2013 by Chief and Council. Students will receive sponsorship for either full- or part-time studies.

Syilx Language and Culture

CAN-8 is a computer program where all you need is a computer, internet connection and headphones, and you can learn your language. CAN-8 is just another learning tool, but it is a tool where you can learn your language at your own pace, in the comfort of others and or in private.
